CLCR builds strategic partnerships in support of advanced manufacturing tied to socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development.

CLCR's Manufacturing Renaissance Council (MRC) model unites business, labor, government, and community leaders in strategic partnerships to promote development based on advanced manufacturing. The MRC model was pioneered in Chicago, and recently is being replicated in the San Francisco Bay Area.

National Manufacturing Renaissance Council

CLCR has assembled a national leadership team: the National Manufacturing Renaissance Council (NMRC), which includes:

  • Emily DeRocco, president of the Manufacturing Institute of the National Association of Manufacturers
  • Gerrick Davis, legislative and economic policy director of the National Urban League
  • Steve Mandes, executive director of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills
  • Jim Wall, deputy director of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills
  • Mike Egan, assistant executive director of the California Teachers Association

The NMRC is guided by the following principles:

  • The United States should be the global leader in advanced manufacturing.
  • Social partnerships to support advanced manufacturing should include business, labor, government, and communities.
  • A world-class education system is a fundamental requirement for a strong advanced manufacturing sector.
  • A strong advanced manufacturing sector builds up communities and the middle class.

The NMRC serves as the flexible, scalable umbrella organization for locally supported MRCs in U.S. cities. CLCR acts as the managing partner, providing seed capital and technical assistance to leadership teams in each replication program.
